Oregon Liveability | Lifestyle and Diversity
 |
Oregon has a broad spectrum of economic and social growth that includes diverse interests, cultures and unique opportunities.
This diversity continues to provide a stable economy, a prosperous business environment, and a healthy lifestyle second to none in the nation. |
 |
- Diversity: Oregon maintains a strong commitment to the values of diversity and inclusion. “Four Seas, One Family” – is the wording on the gateway to Portland’s Chinatown; the symbolic heart of the earliest Chinese community in Portland. Chinatown has more than two dozen Chinese-owned businesses, including restaurants, gift and import shops, club houses, an herbal medicine store and an Asian food market. Chinatown also hosts the Lan Su Chinese Garden; an authentically built Ming Dynasty style garden with covered walkways, bridges, open colonnades, pavilions, richly planted landscape, and a teahouse. This urban oasis was built by Suzhou artisans and provides a window into Chinese culture, history and way of thinking.

- Natural Resources / Recreation: Oregon’s natural resources provide endless opportunities for outdoor recreation and enjoyment: the Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls, windsurfing and sailing at Hood River, visiting valley wineries, snow skiing at Mt. Hood, fish watching and tours at Bonneville Dam, and all of the fun outdoor activities of the Oregon coast
- Arts & Culture: Portland’s maintains the official Cultural District within its downtown core. However, Portland’s Pearl District has transformed into a trendy art and cultural center for the City.
- Sports: During basketball season, fans and visitors alike can attend a Portland Trailblazers game. Portland also has hockey and baseball for local fans as well as a professional soccer team. These and other sporting events - including a yearly marathon and high school and collegiate sports - can be experienced inexpensively and often for free, with little effort or driving distance.
- Food: Portland has been rated as “America’s New Food Eden" by TIME magazine, November 2010, and as one of the best places to eat by Food & Wine, August 2010.
